What is the magicApp Paid App Subscription?

Beginning in February 2021 magicJack is now offering a mobile app subscription only service to new users to download and subscribe to mobile app calling services. Service will be available to existing magicJack customers in April 2021.

This subscription is only available as a monthly recurring service available via the Apple Store or Google Play Store. Once signed up, users can select the type of service (incoming, outgoing or both) as well as text messaging feature.

Note – payment is made via your Apple or Google store accounts and not via the magicJack.com website

What features are available on the magicApp Paid App Subscription?

Features include:

  • Send and receive unlimited text messages to an U.S. Mobile Number
  • Free worldwide calling magicApp-to-magicApp and magicApp-to-magicJack
  • Never use mobile carrier minutes when using the app on WIFI
  • Voicemail
  • Call Waiting
  • Option to purchase low-cost International Prepaid Credits
How is the Paid App Subscription different from the Companion App?

The Paid App subscription does not require an active magicJack device service subscription. 

The Companion App is a free app that requires an active magicJack device service subscription to use.

Can I change my Paid App Subscription?

Yes, you can change your subscription at any time on your mobile device by going to your Apple or Google account, selecting manage subscriptions and make any needed changes there.

You cannot edit or change your service on your magicJack account site (my.magicJack.com) or with customer service, the subscriptions are managed exclusively with your device account (Apple or Google).

Can I port my number to a Paid App Subscription?

No, the Paid App subscription provides a free U.S. telephone number for use with the service.

Can I get a Custom, Vanity or Canadian Number with the Paid App Subscription?

No, the Paid App subscription allows the user to select a U.S. free telephone number only. 

Why am I not receiving text messages on my magicApp?

Text messaging to your magicApp telephone number must be coming from a 10-digit telephone number.  Short codes (like banks and verification codes) will not work with magicApp.

Can I send a group message?

No, you can only send a message to one telephone number at a time.

Can I send a picture/video message?

No, picture/video messages (MMS) are not available.

Can I switch between Android and iOS with my Paid Mobile App only subscription?

No, the operating system (Android and iOS) cannot be changed for the Paid Mobile App only subscription.  Once your subscription expires on one device type you can sign up on the other operating system, however it will be a new account with a new telephone number.

How do I cancel my Paid Mobile App only subscription?

To cancel a subscription on the Google Play app

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Store
  2. Check if you’re signed into the correct Google Account
  3. Select Menu – Subscriptions
  4. Select the subscription you want to cancel
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription
  6. Follow the onscreen instructions

To cancel a subscription on your iPhone, iPad or iPod

  1. Open the Setting app
  2. Tap your name
  3. Select Subscriptions
  4. Select the subscription that you want to manage
  5. Select Cancel Subscription
How can I block certain incoming calls while using magicApp?

Yes, call blocking is available with magicApp.

You can easily block up to 99 telephone numbers. When a telephone number on your blocked number list attempts to contact you, they will receive a busy signal, and your phone will not ring.

Note that text messages will also be blocked when originating phone number is added to block list.

If you are using magicApp on Android/iOS device, you can enable and disable Call blocking from Settings menu in magicApp.

To directly add a Phone number to block list from magicApp, follow below steps:

  1. Login to your magicApp on your Android/iOS device
  2. Navigate to Call logs tab on the magicApp. Tap on the phone number for Android or tap on information icon for iOS, to see the Call Details screen
  3. On the Call Details screen, tap on Block to add that number to block list
  4. To unblock, click on Unblock icon on Call Details screen or navigate to Settings menu in magicApp and then check X symbol.

Editing blocked numbers

  1. Login to your account at my.magicJack.com
  2. Hover your mouse over the Call Features tab
  3. Click the Call Blocking option
  4. Click the Edit List option to view the full list of blocked numbers
  5. Add or Change a Nickname and click Update
  6. Remove a Number from the Call Block List: Click the “–” (minus) icon in the Add/Remove column to remove the associated telephone number.

Tips for blocking telemarketers

We recommend that you register your magicJack telephone number(s) on the National Do Not Call Registry (found at www.donotcall.gov). The National Do Not Call Registry allows you to opt out of receiving telemarketing. Most telemarketers will not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days.

If you continue to receive telemarketing calls after 31 days have passed, you can file a complaint on the www.donotcall.gov website.

Can I dial 911 from magicApp?

Yes, we do support 911 calling from magicApp. However, make sure that you are using the updated version of magicApp. To download latest version of magicApp, please visit - the Apple Store or Google Play Store.

To make any changes to 911, navigate to Settings option on magicApp and look for Emergency dialing (911)

How to purchase International Prepaid Credits?

To purchase International Prepaid Credits:

  1. Login to magicApp with user credentials.
  2. Click on the menu (three horizontal lines) and then select Add International Calling Credit.
  3. Follow on screen steps to complete purchase of International Prepaid Credits.

Alternatively, you can purchase International Prepaid Credits from magicJack account portal by logging at my.magicJack.com

Note: Prepaid credits will expire six months after purchase.

How do I filter Spam/Scam incoming calls to my magicJack number?

Calls that originate from an unverified source may be marked as Scam Likely in the caller ID display. You can choose to ignore (not answer) or add them to your block list.

Similarly, if you have enabled voicemail via email, the subject line of the voice email will also indicate either Scam Likely or Verified to help you filter the email messages more easily.

Why do I miss incoming calls on my magicApp?

In order to receive calls on your mobile Apple/Android devices, notifications for magicApp must be enabled.

On your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch:

  • Navigate to your Settings
  • Select Notifications
  • Select magicApp
  • Ensure the Alert Style is set to Notifications, and Sounds are set to On

On your Android Devices:

Navigate to your settings

  • Select Apps -> Manage Apps
  • Select magicApp, from the Permissions section, tap on App permissions, ensure that all permissions are enabled.
  • Tap on Notifications, and All sound option is set to On
How can I manage call features from magicApp?
You can manage call features like voicemail, blocking calls, call forwarding from magicApp without logging into magicJack account website.
  • Login to magicApp with the user credentials
  • Navigate to Settings option in magicApp
  • Look for desired call features you want to manage and follow on screen steps to enable or disable.

 
Note: Call feature settings in magicApp will be available only on Android 12 and higher and iOS 14 or higher versions.
